The Wonders of Coffee

I think we can all agree on the great impact that coffee has in our daily routines. Personally, my “No talkie before coffee” mug serves as a nice warning sign when entering my day because let’s be real here, I am a different person when I have not been properly caffeinated. Coffee not only does a great job internally refreshing us, but can have the same rejuvenating benefits for our skin as well.

Fact: Coffee is a great source of antioxidants that can help fight against skin damaging rays as well as help firm and tighten your skin. It can also help reduce puffiness, dark circles under the eyes, and damage from harmful UV rays. Coffee not only improves blood circulation, but also serves as an awesome exfoliator penetrating deep into the skin’s pores and removing impurities that other exfoliators can’t reach—giving your skin a natural glow. So with all of that said, here are some of my favorite coffee based masks for all different skin types.

1. For Dry Skin: Coffee and Olive Oil Mask

Recipe:

-2 tablespoons coffee powder

-2 tablespoons olive oil

Mix the ingredients using a 1:1 ratio, apply mixture to face and neck, let it sit for 3 minutes and then wash it off. Do not let it dry on face. Olive oil is rich in vitamins and will serve as a natural moisturizer.

       2. For Oily Skin: Coffee and Lemon Mask

Recipe:

-2 tablespoons coffee powder

-2 tablespoons lemon juice extract

Mix coffee powder and lemon juice extract together, apply mixture to face and neck, let it sit for 30 minutes and then rinse. The lemon juice extract is a good source of Vitamin C, so it will cleanse skin of impurities.

3. Glow Getter: Coffee and Honey Mask

 Recipe:

-2 tablespoons coffee powder

-2 tablespoons honey

Mix coffee powder and honey in a bowl. Apply mixture to face and gently massage in a circular motion, let it sit for 20 minutes and then rinse. Honey serves as a moisturizer which paired with the antioxidants in coffee will not only help erase dark circles under the eyes but will also leave your skin moisturized with a natural glow.

4. Repair Skin Damage: Coffee and Cocoa Mask

Recipe:

-1 tablespoon coffee powder

-1 tablespoon cocoa powder

-1.5 tablespoons milk

Mix coffee powder and cocoa powder with milk. Apply this paste on face and neck, let it sit for 30 minutes then wash it off. Cocoa, along with coffee, is rich in antioxidants, which will help exfoliate and hydrate the skin, tighten pores, and repair skin damage.

5. Tone the Skin: Coffee, Oatmeal, and Yogurt Mask

Recipe:

-1 tablespoon coffee grinds

-2 tablespoons yogurt

-1.5 tablespoons oatmeal

Blend oatmeal, coffee grinds, and yogurt into a fine paste. Apply to face and neck, let it sit for 30 minutes then rinse. Oatmeal aids coffee in exfoliating and rejuvenating the skin while the yogurt will help to tone it.

As you can see, coffee has countless benefits. So next time you have a girls night in, try one of these coffee masks to rejuvenate + get your glow on. And always remember: never underestimate the power of a good cup of joe.
