Summer Beauty [essentials]

I am a big fan of the “less is more” concept when summer roles around. Especially during the months we are living in now – full of [typically] humid heat-filled days. If I attempt to apply a full face of make-up on these days, it is usually melted off by 3:00 in the afternoon, only leaving traces of mascara under my eyes [and we all know the “raccoon eye” look is not what we want]. So, I typically keep my hair + make-up simple and start with a foundation of good skincare and a healthy diet – having clear + fresh skin is the best summer time “go-to”. Because summer air is so different than any other time of the year, I have some must-have products I have found to work magic during these months.

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12 Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Sunscreen (

This is an “all-in-one” product for my face. SPF + BB Cream + Lightweight Coverage. It feels wonderful when I put it on and I am able to build the coverage by adding a pressed powder if I want to.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes! Waterproof Mascara (

This mascara not only stays on through the pool, ocean, and everyday summer sweat, but it also provides beautiful full lush lashes. I love it!

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray (target)

This is hands-down one of my favorite hair products. It is an inexpensive way to get those amazing beachy waves we all wish we could effortlessly wake-up with. I love this product, because it allows you to show the natural texture of your hair and is SO easy to use. Just spray and go!

Conditioning Hair Mask (drugstore)

I chose not to highlight any specific hair mask, simply because we all have different hair types and textures. I happen to have thick + dry hair, that needs a more-than-average dose of moisture to stay healthy. However, some have the opposite problem – too much oil. Depending on your hair type, you may want hair oil or just a simple deep conditioning mask. To find my favorite, I googled “best conditioning mask for thick dry hair” and started researching my options. Using this on a weekly basis has made a wonderful difference and offered my hair a much-needed break from summer heat, pool water, and many other things.

Unfractionated Coconut Oil (grocery store)

Coconut oil, as you have probably read on numerous beauty blogs and Pinterest pins, is a jar full of miracle oil. I use this oil for everything – cooking, eye makeup remover, hair repair masks, and my daily moisturizer for my dry skin. The summer sun can be tough on us, making our once smooth skin dry and itchy (especially those of us with sensitive skin). When I begin feeling this way, I scoop out some coconut oil and put it on my arms, legs, and any other dry spots. It quickly moisturizes and heals my dry skin.

Summer beauty can be tricky, but if you keep it simple and find what works best for your skin + hair type, you will have smooth sailing!
