Even though we’re made new each day, the New Year brings an overwhelming sense of a “clean slate”. It’s a time to turn over a new leaf, shed any negativity, and tackle our hopes, dreams, and aspirations.
But if you’re anything like me, that “new-year-new-you” fire burns out pretty quickly, and it’s easy to lose sight of what needs to be accomplished. I’m a very visual person, so having a tangible and interactive reminder to push me is what keeps me motivated.
Ssssoooo… DREAM BOARD ANYONE?!
I’ve put together a dream/inspiration/goal/get-it done-board that is both simple to make and easy to change with your mood.
I made a quick Target run for my supplies. You’ll want washi tape, sticky notes, a calendar, and any magazines worth clipping up.
Start with any blank surface – most obvious would be a wall, but a bedroom or closet door would work fine if you’re low on blank wall space. Tape off the section you want to work with (using washi tape or painter’s tape, so it won’t take off any paint on the wall!).
Now the fun part! [Insert mad scientist grin on my face!] Gather any images, verses, quotes, drawings, scraps of fabric, colors, places, etc., that you want up on your board. I think it’s important to interchange these images throughout the year to keep you inspired and focused.
Next, pull out your sticky notes and create four different lists.
1) To do: Create a list of short-term tasks that you need to get done.
2) Dreams/goals: Create a list of long-term things you would like to do or accomplish throughout the year.
3) Prayers: Simply list what/who you’re keeping in your prayers. This is your opportunity to hand your hopes over to the Lord and trust in the plan He ultimately has for you as well as practicing love and lifting others up to Him.
4) Praises: Keep track of how God is working and moving in your life! This one is my favorite because what could keep you more encouraged than seeing how our Heavenly Father is walking with you along your journey?!
These four lists are also meant to be revised and updated as you move through your year.
Lastly, take your calendar and fill it with deadlines for yourself. For example, if your goal is to live a healthier lifestyle, map out a fitness schedule or plan meals. Want to travel more? Set tentative dates aside. Don’t give yourself the option of letting your dreams fall to the wayside.
Admittedly, I thrive in chaos and clutter. Therefore, my board ended up pretty eclectic and busy. Feel free to create a board that is inspiring to you! Make it as crazy or as minimalistic as you’d like. Most importantly, just have fun with it! I hope you guys feel as inspired and excited as I do about this new year. Lets crush it this year, belovelies.
