Born for Purpose {Meg Greer}

Everyone, meet Meg:

Meg grew up in Asheville, NC and graduated from UNC Charlotte with a degree in Communication Studies. She held positions but lacked passion…this directly tied to her lack of faith. Meg came to know Christ as her savior in December 2011, and everything changed. Her heart was transformed and so was her purpose. It was a slow process the first year, but soon she recognized a desire to serve others and bring people to God. Her husband Alexander, was a founder of a movement called GIVE FIFTY ONE ( where she began serving homeless children and transporting them to church on Sunday. “The Lord is continuing to do a great work in this ministry, but we felt a calling to be in the church full time. Then an incredible door opened for us to create and launch a new, dynamic, worship experience called ALIVE in Johnson City at First Christian Church!” Some of Meg’s roles entail graphic design, discipleship of women, creative elements, team building and raising up young women leaders.

How did God call you to your purpose?

God has blessed me with an incredible husband to do life with, I believe the Lord whispered to me through Alexander and really challenged my calling…My passions ignited and flourished when I stepped out of my comfort zone and walked in faith, one step at a time. It began with a volunteer role that turned into a leadership position with GFO, and soon I was a mentor to the little children on the Vision bus that took them to church. Then it transformed into a role that required more leadership and mentoring through ALIVE. God prepared me each step of the way while my husband encouraged the process!

Did you feel prepared?

In many cases God will call us especially when we aren’t ready so that we are made strong through Him in our weaknesses. Often times I feel unequipped to speak into women because I lack knowledge or don’t have experience. Yet God has allowed me to go through various trials that I look back on and distinguish as blessings. One thing that speaks volumes is being relational…and I am able to relate with girls on many levels which in turn lets them confide in me.

Romans 8:28: God works ALL things for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.

I also have minimal experience in graphic design or creative elements which make me feel unprepared, but God has equipped us for every good work and I am continually given vision, patience and determination to perform with excellence unto the Lord!

Colossians 3:23: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

How do you live out your purpose on a daily basis?

My purpose is to share the love of Jesus in tangible ways. In serving out of an overflow it is essential to be filled up continually, I begin by spending time in God’s word daily. I challenge my thinking to embrace each person where they are and to seize any opportunity that will draw them closer to God. That can be personal investments in our team, stopping to talk to a stranger, volunteering in outreach, serving at church. This is a calling that can receive as much time as you are willing to commit.

How do you live out your purpose in the toughest of times?

Beginning a new experience that challenges the thinking and practices of religion can be tough, but an essential way we are able to live out God’s purpose for us in toughest of times is to make sure and surround ourselves with the right voices. It’s always important to confide in our mentors/loved ones and receive encouragement filled with truth.

Proverbs 11:14: Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.

Proverbs 15:22: Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.

What is your dream? What inspires you?

My dream is to continue growing and never let life pass me by. I hope to number my days and MAKE THEM COUNT. I hope that ALIVE can reach thousands of people right where they are and turn their eyes to the living God. I am inspired to witness evangelists and preachers that never gave up, in the good and tough times. Matthew Barnett and Joyce Meyer instantly come to mind. Matthew struggled with defeat for years while launching an incredible church now called the Dream Center, and Joyce had a rough upbringing that left her bitter for many years. Now they are both reaching millions for the Lord!! It is incredible to hear of their hardships and the faith that moved mountains.

What verse do you live by?

Psalm 37:4: Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.

This verse was especially significant when I met my husband; it sets a foundation for so many circumstances! Jesus has poured into my life with innumerable blessings and everything began with seeking Him.

What is your advice to finding your purpose for others who might not have found theirs yet?

I’ll start with a quote: “I used to think God guided us by opening and closing doors, but now I know sometimes God wants us to kick some doors down.” – Bob Goff As followers of Jesus we are all called to make disciples of nations, if we are waiting on our purpose I believe we’ve been left a great blueprint. Make your situation your ministry, serve tables with an attitude that makes them wonder what it is about you…sell cars with integrity, charge honest prices and make God’s heart your purpose.

Psalm 37:4: Delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
